i see bald people

I’ve decided to go bald and I mean totally bald.  I’m having a full body wax and getting my head shaved to help raise funds for the NZ Leukaemia and Blood Foundation.  It’s part of their annual appeal to help raise funds to find a cure for blood cancers of all kinds.  Since I made the decision I’ve been seeing bald men everywhere (not just thinning or bald-ING but shiny and resplendent in their hairlessness).

WHY AM I DOING THIS? is the thought that passed through my head as I stood behind suited bald in the airport the other day and again the next morning in traffic I thought so again. WHY?

Well the reason is I want to do SOMETHING. I’ve seen a few friends lose hair due to chemo and it’s rough on them; especially the women.  One friend who is starting chemo at the moment was ‘comforted’ by a natural baldy (male) with ‘I’m bald it’s OK’.  But chemo strips away hair and health – it’s poison, it removes much in it’s attempt to kill the cancer.

The removal of my hair is double focussed:

1. It’s an attempt to raise cash for NZ LBF. You can donate via credit/debit card safe and secure at this site: http://goo.gl/o7Ev just click ‘donate’. My initial target is $1000 (£500/USD$700) but I’d actually love to raise double that.

2. It’s an attempt at empathy – to say, ‘losing your hair stinks’ but if it helps it’s worth it in the end.

I promise photo’s and a video of the waxing (my face in pain is all that will be shown – don’t worry!) so will you give generously to see me as a bald person?

Hey Andy, I have a friend from high school, who has that disease where your hair doesn't grow, or if it does, it all falls out pretty quick.. and he has a photo album on his facebook where all his pictures are of the back of his head.. It's pretty magnificent.. like in front of the pyramids and in Machu Piccu, etc..
You will definitely have to do that when you go bald...
